Scottish tourist Carly Gillon warned travelers heading to Australia. After swimming in a local lake, the girl noticed that her hair began to fall out.

She shared this on her TikTok page. The Scottish woman discovered the unpleasant problem after visiting Lake K'gari on Fraser Island, Australia.

When Gillon came home and took a shower, she found huge strands of hair falling out of her head. "Please be careful if you go to Fraser Island - your hair may fall out," she said in the video.

Ataur Rahman, a professor of water and environmental engineering, said it was unlikely that Lake K'gari could have caused such a drastic reaction, as its water is extremely clean and soft.

"Lake K'gari is not connected to urban areas or agricultural land," the professor explained. "There is no pesticide, herbicide, or any other pollutant that could cause hair loss.

The expert suggested that the likely cause could be allergies or Gillon's swimming in other bodies of water with high levels of chlorine or other chemicals. "The lake has a low mineral content. This means it is good for your skin and health," he said.

Prof. Rahman recommended always using oil or other hair care products to protect your hair before swimming, washing it with clean water and shampoo immediately afterward. "When people travel abroad, the temperature difference and stress can have a negative impact on their bodies," he suggested.

Gillon used a mask to restore her hair. The traveler also suggested that it could have been just a coincidence.

Several other travelers from Europe also complained of hair problems after traveling to Australia:

"My hair has been terrible since I've been to Australia," wrote one user.

"Oh my god, I have the same thing!" shared another.

But others had no problems with the lake water:

"I'm in Australia and just got back from Fraser Island. I had no problems - I swam in the lake three times," the woman said.
