A tech prophet who predicted the advent of the iPhone has given a new prediction: humans will become immortal cyborgs by 2045, and AI will be able to resurrect loved ones
Famous American inventor and futurologist Ray Kurzweil, who once envisioned the era of the iPhone, this time assured that people will completely merge with artificial intelligence, becoming immortal cyborgs by 2045. The scientist also predicted that AI will learn to resurrect loved ones.
Kurzweil described his new predictions in his book The Singularity is Nearer. He also emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence will make it possible to connect our brains to cloud technologies, and this he calls the "fifth era" of human intelligence, writes DailyMail.
Ray Kurzweil is convinced that artificial intelligence will eventually surpass human intelligence, revolutionizing human existence. "Babies born today will be just finishing college when the Singularity occurs. Nanotechnology will allow advanced trends to culminate in the direct expansion of our brains with layers of virtual neurons in the cloud. In this way we will merge with AI. These are the most interesting years in all of history," predicts the futurologist.
The US researcher says recent AI breakthroughs such as ChatGPT show that his 2005 prediction in his first book, The Singularity is Near, was correct and "the trajectory is clear".
The dead will come back to life
Ray Kurzweil believes that AI technology has the potential to "bring back" the dead - first in the form of a simulation that replicates a person, and then physically bring them back to life.
The scientist began actively working on resurrection technology more than 10 years ago when his father died. Kurzweil populated the artificial intelligence system with letters, essays and musical pieces from his dad.
"Through our digital activities, we're already creating very rich records of how we think about how we feel. And during this decade, our technologies for recording, storing and organizing this information will evolve rapidly," says the American futurologist.
Ray Kurzweil also predicts that by the end of the 2020s there will be "very realistic" non-biological reproduction of humans and then living bodies.
"Subsequently, replicants may even fit into cybernetically augmented biological bodies grown from the original person's DNA," the scientist writes in his book.
Kurzweil predicts that humans will evolve into artificial bodies more advanced than biology allows, and by the 2040s it will be possible to make a replica of a human.
Humans are about to get a lot smarter
Ray Kurzweil says we are about to enter a "fifth era" of intelligence, where humans merge with machines. This will be made possible by the advent of human-level artificial intelligence and brain chips like Ilon Musk's Neuralink.
According to the American, human intelligence will increase millions of times as people will be connected directly to machines. "A key opportunity in the 2030s will be to connect the upper ranges of our cortex to the cloud, which will directly expand our thinking. In this way, artificial intelligence, instead of being a competitor, will become an extension of ourselves," the scientist assures.
In 2030, the era of immortality will begin
In his new book, Ray Kurzweil writes that by 2030, biological simulators of artificial intelligence will conduct clinical trials in an hour, not years. Such a scientific breakthrough will make it possible to invent a new drug that will give immortality.
Backup technologies, which the inventor describes as the fourth bridge, will be able to provide people with additional needs.
"The long-term goal is medical nanomachines. They will be made of diamondoid parts with embedded sensors, manipulators, computers, communicators and possibly power sources," Kurzweil described the technologies of the future.
Life will be easier and cheaper
Ray Kurzweil predicts that new technologies will change our daily lives. After all, jobs will be able to build skyscrapers incredibly quickly with the help of 3D printers that produce construction parts.
The inventor also describes AI breakthroughs in photovoltaics that will lower the price of energy. And breakthroughs in robotic mining will reduce the cost of extracting raw materials.
"In the 2030s, it will be relatively inexpensive to live at a level that is considered luxurious today," the futurologist assures.
Entertainment of the future
According to Kurzweil, the human brain will be modernized with nanotechnology, which will allow the creation of new forms of entertainment. The scientist believes that entertainment will be able to transfer "every opinion in someone's head into yours."
The American writes that the brain will be upgraded with "harmless nanoscale electrodes inserted into the brain via the bloodstream."
"Freed from the shell of our skulls and processed on a substrate millions of times faster than biological tissue, our minds will be able to grow exponentially, eventually expanding our intelligence millions of times," Ray Kurzweil summarized.
