A strong storm in Batumi nearly washed away people and flooded the streets

For the second day, a strong storm is raging in the popular Georgian resort of Batumi. The city's central streets are flooded. The storm also damaged the infrastructure and almost killed two people.

Footage of two women standing on a pier during the storm was shared online, when they were suddenly covered by a huge wave and almost washed away into the sea. The Georgian Emergency Management Service urged citizens and tourists to be extremely cautious and refrain from traveling near the coastline.

The storm on the Black Sea reached 5 points, although some sources talk about an eight-point storm. The storm damaged the infrastructure of Batumi's new boulevard and flooded the city's central streets. Some houses lost power.

In the footage released by eyewitnesses, you can see the consequences of the bad weather. Sea water and wind did not spare the streets of the Georgian city. Due to heavy rainfall and a strong storm, rapid response teams had to be mobilized, including rescuers, police and local municipalities.

A video of two women on a pier who nearly died after waves tried to throw them into the sea went viral. The Georgian women miraculously managed to hold on to the railing and not fall.

Infrastructure was reportedly damaged in the neighboring village of Kobuleti. Utilities are working to eliminate the consequences of the storm.

As OBOZ.UA wrote earlier, a Turkish cargo ship Kafkametler disappeared off the Black Sea coast of Turkey due to a strong storm on November 19. There were 12 crew members on board.
