A simple home fertilizer will accelerate the growth of spathiphyllum: how to do it

Yulia PoteriankoNews

Spathiphyllum holds a special place among popular houseplants. It is not just a beautiful plant with spectacular white flowers, it also purifies the air in the room quite well, and according to beliefs, it also helps its owners to gain female happiness.

In general, caring for spathiphyllum is quite simple – provide it with plenty of diffused light, and don't skip watering, and it will do just fine. However, if you want to grow a really large bush and ensure its long flowering, try fertilizing the flower with a homemade fertilizer, which was described by Interia Kobieta.

Usually, spathiphyllum blooms twice a year – in spring and autumn, although this rule is not strict. Flowering lasts for several weeks and in some cases, the flowers can last up to three months.

If you want your plant to keep you happy for so long, take a closer look at some of your kitchen waste. Namely, the water in which you cook pasta or rice. It contains some potassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen, which are partially washed out of the food during heat treatment. It is these substances that provide the flower with intensive growth and health.

However, not all water after pasta or rice is suitable for feeding spathiphyllum. The broth should not contain any spices, fats, and especially salt. Foreign substances can only worsen the quality of the soil in the pot and even cause the flower to die.

Boil pasta or rice in clean boiling water and pour the broth into a separate container. You can use it only after it has completely cooled down. After that, the liquid is diluted with clean, settled water in a 1:1 ratio and used to water the spathiphyllum.

You don't need to use this fertilizer often. It is enough to water the flower once every three weeks. This will fully meet the plant's need for nutrients.
