Traveling to Moldova

You don't have to wait for a vacation to travel. It's more than possible to escape from your routine and go abroad for a weekend. You can explore the nearest countries in a few days. For example, Moldova. Let's find out what treasures our neighbor is hiding.

Triumphal Arch

It is located on the Great National Assembly Square. It was built in 1840 to house the bell. The sculpture is 13 meters high.

Also visit the Cathedral of the Nativity, an architectural monument of the XIX century. It was built in 1830-1836. In 1941, during the bombing, the shrine was destroyed, and in 1962 it was turned into an exhibition hall of the Ministry of Culture. In the early 90s, the Holy Liturgy began to rule here again. By the way, the restoration of the interior continues to this day.

Soroca Fort

It is located in Soroca on the banks of the Dniester. Originally, there was a wooden structure here, but it was later rebuilt. The stone version was built in 1543-1546. At the time, the building played an important role in protecting Moldovan lands from attackers. It repeatedly withstood sieges by Turks and Tatars. Over the centuries, the fortress changed owners, experienced periods of prosperity and decline.

Its walls are fortified with five towers: four of them are rounded, and the entrance one is square. The towers have several tiers and special holes for cannons. The favorable location made the attraction practically impregnable to enemies.

In the spring of 1621, during the fierce battles of the Khotyn War, the forty-thousand-strong Cossack army of Yakiv Borodavka captured the city and completely destroyed it.

Old Orhei

A historical and archaeological complex near the banks of the Reut River. Excavations show that people lived here in prehistoric times. Later, an ancient Slavic settlement emerged, which turned into an important trade center.

In the Middle Ages, cave monasteries appeared here. They became not only religious centers, but also defensive points that protected the locals from attackers.

We recommend going down to the dungeons. Here you can see ancient paintings, including a Moldovan text from 1690.

Stephen the Great Central Park

The oldest park in Moldova. For many years, it has served as a place of recreation for citizens and guests of the capital. The natural corner was founded in 1818 during the reign of Alexander I. Hundreds of acacias and linden trees were planted here. Modern alleys, flowerbeds, carousels, swings, and fountains were also arranged.

The attraction is also decorated with numerous sculptures of prominent figures of the country's culture and history. There are figures of poet George Koshbuk, novelist Mihai Eminescu, and writer Tudor Argezi.

In 2009, free Wi-Fi was provided in the park.

National Museum of Art of Moldova

Located in Chisinau. Its collection includes more than 33 thousand paintings and covers periods from the Middle Ages to the present day.

It features collections of European and Oriental art. Tourists can see sculptures, graphics, and paintings.

Lower Prut Scientific Reserve

If you have more time, we recommend visiting this unique natural center. It is located south of the city of Cahul in the floodplain of the Prut River. The attraction was created in 1991. It is dominated by swamps, forests, meadows and lakes. Among them is Beleu, the largest body of water in the country.

It is also home to European minks and otters and over 168 species of birds.

Also, be sure to visit the Casa Dorului, a traditional peasant's farmhouse located at the entrance to the village of Valeni. Here, tourists are greeted with bread and salt and immediately invited to the house-museum, furnished in the style of the XVIII-XIX centuries. Travelers can try themselves as a weaver and work at a real loom. They can also taste local dishes: stew with polenta and cheese, sarmale in grape leaves, and poale-n brau pies.
