The pilots' secret phrase that does not bode well for passengers: never ignore it

If the pilot commands the flight attendants to sit down, passengers should not wander around the cabin either

Flying on an airplane can be quite stressful for people who suffer from mild aerophobia. However, once in the turbulence zone, absolutely all passengers of an aircraft start to worry. In particular, because this trouble happens quite unexpectedly. However, if you listen to the pilot's announcements over the loudspeaker, you can hear a secret phrase that means the plane is about to shake a little.

According to The Sun, former pilot John Greaves spoke about this phrase. According to him, if the pilot commands the flight attendants to sit down, it means that the aircraft is entering a turbulence zone.

According to airliner commanders, about 100 passengers worldwide are injured in a year during the sway caused by turbulence. These are serious injuries that require medical intervention, such as broken bones, head bruises, and even concussions. Yes, it's not much, but it could have been avoided if they had been sitting in their seats with their seat belts on at the time.

During severe turbulence, a passenger who is in the aisle or sitting unbelted can be thrown around the cabin and hit hard against the seats and other interior elements. That's why pilots insist that the warning on the display above the passenger seat should never be ignored.

Experts warn that due to climate change, turbulence zones are moving into the atmosphere where it used to be relatively safe for passenger airliners to fly. Accordingly, motion sickness on board may occur more often.

Sensitive passengers are advised to prepare for the flight so that they do not become nauseous during the turbulence zone. The main recommendations are as follows:

  • avoid drinking alcohol before the flight;
  • try to divert attention from the motion sickness to something else;
  • contact the crew if the passenger feels unwell.
