A "red zone" was introduced in a popular tourist city in Italy: what it means

The Italian city of Pisa has become a global symbol primarily because of its famous leaning tower. This sloping bell tower, built in the XII century, attracts millions of tourists every year. It has become known that the Public Order and Security Committee of the Prefecture of Pisa has approved the creation of a "red zone" in the area adjacent to the railway station.

The decision was made in accordance with the directive of the Minister of the Interior and at the request of Mayor Michele Conti. ANSA.It has explained what the red zone means.

The prefecture said that Pisa Airport "is the second station in Tuscany in terms of passengers, registering an estimated transit of about 20 million travelers a year."

The "red zone" defines an urban area with a high risk of crime. Frequent thefts, robberies, violence, or other offenses are possible here.

To ensure the safety of residents and visitors in this zone, law enforcement patrols will be intensified.

Additional checks, CCTV cameras, or other access control measures may be introduced.

This measure is intended to improve public safety.

In addition, the introduction of the "red zone" follows measures that have already been implemented under the coordination of the prefecture, including improved lighting and video surveillance.

The "red zone" includes such areas as Piazza della Stazione, Via Mascagni, Via Puccini, Viale Bonaini, and Viale Gramsci.
