A little-known Scottish actor may become the new James Bond: who is Stuart Martin and where did he act before? Photo
Hollywood is looking for a new James Bond in the 007 franchise, and the name of Scottish actor Stuart Martin has suddenly emerged as a possible candidate. Although he is not as well known as the other candidates, his career and charisma have already attracted the attention of Bond fans.
The 38-year-old actor, who previously worked mainly in television projects, allegedly held preliminary meetings with Eon Productions, which is responsible for creating films about the British super agent. Insiders tell the Daily Mail that he has a good chance of getting the role, although there are no official announcements yet.
If Martin does become the next 007, he will be the first Scotsman since the legendary Sean Connery, who first played Bond in 1962. It was after his success that Ian Fleming, the author of the books about the spy, decided to add Scottish roots to the character.
"Stewart is a name that has been discussed in Bond circles by those in the know. It is in serious dispute. No one will confirm it because Eon Productions is in denial and avoiding anything to do with casting, but it would be an amazing milestone if a Scottish Bond reappeared," said a Los Angeles-based film consultant who has worked on the James Bond franchise.
Stuart Martin was born in Ayr, Scotland, and began his career in television in 2014, starring in the series Babylon. He later gained fame for his roles in The Medici: Lords of Florence, Jamestown, and the detective drama Miss Scarlet and the Duke.
His most notable work includes the role of Bradley Cage in the Netflix movie Army of Thieves. For this project, he underwent intensive physical training, mastered fight scenes, and performed complex stunts.
Other contenders for the role of 007 include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner, James Norton, and Paul Mescal. After the end of the Daniel Craig era, the producers are trying to find a new actor who can match the image of the modern Bond.
It is not yet known when the next actor will be officially announced. However, if the choice falls on Stuart Martin, it may be an unexpected but logical decision for the franchise.
