A fire broke out in the Russian city of Kursk after explosions: details have emerged
On the night of July 31, explosions were heard in the Russian city of Kursk, and a missile alert was declared in the region. Local authorities reported an "attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine" and a fire at "one of the facilities," with no casualties. In the morning, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a strike on a storage facility for weapons and military equipment near Kursk.
Around 01:00 (local time and Kyiv time), the local publics reported that "it was loud over Kursk", before which a UAV was allegedly spotted in the region. At 01:32, the acting governor of the region, Alexei Smirnov, announced a missile threat and told residents to take cover, while the siren was not activated in the city.
The signal was given only around 1:40.
As of 01:50, Smirnov said that "a fire broke out at one of the facilities in the Kursk district after the attack by the Ukrainian army".
"I am at the scene together with representatives of law enforcement agencies. I am investigating the possible consequences and reasons for the absence of an alarm," he said.
At 03:37, the governor announced that the missile threat was over, and as of 03:52, he said that the fire in the Kursk region was localized, and there were no casualties.
On the morning of July 31, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the alleged interception and destruction of 11 UAVs over the Belgorod region, four over the Bryansk region, and one UAV each over the Kursk, Kaluga, Rostov regions and occupied Crimea. A "Neptune-MD" guided missile was also allegedly destroyed over the Kursk region.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces later confirmed the attack on the storage facility for weapons and military equipment near Kursk.
"We observed the work of enemy air defense and explosions at targeting points. Specified units from the Ukrainian Navy in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces were engaged in combat operations. Detailed information on the result of the attack is being clarified," the statement said.
The General Staff added that Ukrainian soldiers will continue to take all possible legal measures to stop Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the night of July 30, Ukrainian soldiers hit another oil depot in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. After the attack, a fire broke out at the facility. The strike was carried out by the forces and means of the Security Service of Ukraine in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, which was confirmed by the DIU.
On July 28, it was reported that several fires broke out at night in the Kursk region, including at an oil depot. They were preceded by an announcement of an air threat and then a series of loud explosions.
