A dog owner named a plant after contact with which you should immediately run to the doctor
Dog owners have been warned to watch out for one warning sign when walking with their pets, as it could mean they have come into contact with a dangerous plant.
It is the meadow foxtail, which may also be called flea dart. The plant is most commonly found between April and June, but they grow all year round, meaning they can cause problems even in winter. In a video posted on TikTok, one dog owner said that if you take your dog for a walk and he starts sneezing, he may be trying to get rid of the remnants of this plant in his nostrils.
Foxtail consists of a long, spiky spikelet, and it is this part of the weed that is most dangerous to dogs. The spikes are actually incredibly sharp and can pierce the dog's skin and embed themselves, causing irritation.
More dangerously, however, is that remnants of this plant can even get stuck in your dog's nostrils. This can be very unpleasant for your dog and potentially painful. Foxtails in your dog's nose are also harder to spot, but there is one sign you can look out for – frequent sneezing.
In addition to sneezing, your dog may also have nasal discharge, lethargy, fever, or swelling. Pets often start shaking their heads in an attempt to push the plant out or hit their heads. The owner, who has already encountered this problem, urged anyone who suspects that a foxtail is stuck in the dog's nose to immediately contact a veterinarian to have it removed.
