A dog handler disproves a well-known myth about dogs wagging their tails
There is a well-known myth that if a dog wags its tail, it is a manifestation of joy and happiness. However, the dog handler at Howl's School for Dogs in North East England says that this is not always the case.
The expert shared the signs that may indicate when tail wagging warns of a dog's negative attitude to an event. According to the IrishStar, the dog handler says that understanding and correctly interpreting the signals given by pets is vital and can help you spot any signs of distress.
"When a dog wags its tail, it doesn't necessarily mean it's happy, it just means it's in a state of excitement," the trainer says, explaining that it can be excitement, tension, anxiety, or anxiety.
The dog handler emphasizes that it is important for owners to understand and interpret their furry pet's signals correctly. One of the reasons why a dog can become aggressive is that people do not understand their emotional state. She adds that you should pay attention not only to the tail that wags but also to other signs and body language of the animal.
"If they are wagging their tail and their face is quite tense, they have wrinkles and lines around their face, if their eyes are a little tense or squinting, or their ears are turned back, or they hold their head quite low," the dog handler lists in her video on TikTok various signs of dog behavior that can indicate its condition.
