A battle to the death. A hungry eagle and a cormorant fight for prey: a photographer captured a real "action" in Cherkasy

A real feathered battle to the death broke out on a pond in Cherkasy: a hungry white-tailed eagle and a cormorant fought for prey. Unfortunately, the bird drama ended tragically.

During the fight, the eagle inflicted deep wounds on the cormorant's neck, which caused it to die the next day, photographer Oleksandr Riznyk, who recorded the desperate battle, wrote on Facebook. In a comment to OBOZ.UA, the researcher clarified that the spectacular drama took place over the Dnipro River.

The feathered battle attracted the attention of bird lovers. Therefore, Facebook users began to actively discuss Oleksandr Riznyk's post.

"Very spectacular, exciting and dramatic, but I wanted a real happy ending," commented one of the subscribers of the Birds of Ukraine page.

"Cormorants are quite fighting birds, they could have fought back or dived away with the whole flock," another subscriber wrote.

"What an action movie! From delight to sympathy... But in nature, a predator is a predator," said a third commenter.

It is true that the white-tailed eagle is one of the largest representatives of birds of prey in Eurasia. Its wingspan reaches 2.5 meters, according to Wikipedia.

According to ornithologists, the white-tailed deer is a predator, carnivore or kleptoparasite that preys on fish, waterfowl, mammals, and also consumes carrion.

Fish is known to make up about 80% of the eagle's diet. Most often, bream, pike perch, and carp fall into its sharp talons. But among birds, the prey of the white-tailed eagle is mainly mallards, according to nature experts.
