Lithuanian customs officers detained 13 cars from Klaipeda (a city in Lithuania) for violating international sanctions when exporting them to Russia and Belarus. The total value of the cars is over EUR 200 thousand.

This was reported by Lithuanian customs. It is noted that a pre-trial investigation into smuggling and attempts to circumvent international sanctions has been launched.

According to the agency, the company misled customs when submitting declarations. In particular, by providing false information about:

  • real owners;
  • buyers of the cars.

It is emphasized that this was done to avoid control. As well as exporting cars from the United States to Russia and Belarus in violation of international sanctions and restrictions.

The US punishes those who help Russia

Earlier, the United States imposed sanctions on about 400 individuals and organizations that help Russia supply advanced technologies and equipment. The updated list includes representatives from 17 countries, including China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, and the UAE.

In particular, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on 274 entities. The State Department has identified more than 120 of them. The Department of Commerce added 40 companies and research institutions to the list of trade restrictions.

In general, the sanctions list includes companies from China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, and the UAE. They imported microelectronics and components important for aviation to Russia.

Restrictions were also imposed on Russian companies that acted as importing counterparties. In addition, among others:

  • Russian enterprises that repair military equipment and produce technologies needed by the defense industry, and even organizations related to military cooperation between Russia and Belarus.
  • Three subsidiaries of "Rosatom" that develop digital technologies and software for its needs.
  • A network of shipping companies from the UAE and Singapore participating in the procurement of LNG transportation vessels for "Novatek".

In addition, the sanctions affected five deputy ministers of defense of the Russian Federation.
