A $250 banknote with Trump’s image may be introduced in the U.S.: a bill is already being drafted

The US wants to introduce a $250 banknote with Trump's portrait

U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson wants the U.S. to introduce a $250 bill with a picture of current President Donald Trump on it, despite the legal ban on printing portraits of living people on money. The politician is already drafting a bill to this effect.

Wilson announced this on X (ex-Twitter). He noted that if his idea succeeds, the new bill will be "the most valuable for the most valuable president."

"Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump. Most valuable bill for most valuable President!," he said in a statement.

Wilson explained his intention to introduce a new bill by saying that the policies of Trump's predecessor, President Joe Biden, allegedly led to significant inflation, forcing Americans to carry large amounts of cash. The large-denomination bill is supposed to solve this problem.

"Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash," the congressman said.

At the same time, the New York Post reminded that Wilson's initiative contradicts existing laws that prohibit images of living people on American banknotes. This principle was enshrined in 1866 "to avoid the emergence of a cult of personality and monarchical associations."

"In addition, banknotes above $100 were withdrawn from circulation in 1969. Due to low demand," the article says.

It is emphasized that the idea of putting Trump's portrait on dollar bills came a week after Congresswoman Claudia Tenney proposed making Trump's birthday a federal holiday. "By recognizing Trump's birthday ... as a federal holiday, we can forever enshrine the president's contribution to America's greatness," she said.
