Winter is back in the Carpathians: -4 degrees Celsius outside and piles of snow. Video
Winter weather has returned to the Ukrainian Carpathians. The highlands are covered with snow, strong winds have picked up, and the air temperature has dropped to -4 degrees Celsius.
In addition, forecasters warn of the threat of avalanches. In particular, on March 26 and 27, a significant avalanche hazard (level 3) will remain in the highlands of Zakarpattia and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center stated.
"Avalanches are possible with low additional loads, some natural medium and large avalanches. We advise you to refrain from hiking in the highlands!" the meteorologists said in a statement.
Rescuers also urged Ukrainians to refrain from hiking in the mountains.
"The temperature was -4 in the morning. There was a thaw, but the weather became more complicated, with snow and blizzard. Visibility is limited. The wind is southwest, sometimes up to 15 m/s," said the head of the Chornohora search and rescue post on Pip Ivan peak, Vasyl Fitsak.
According to him, precipitation, lower temperatures and limited visibility are expected in the highlands in the coming days.
