Will be strong and hardy: flowers that can be sown in December
Housewives can reduce their spring work and plant frost-resistant flowers in December. Some crops need to be planted in the cold season, so they will be stronger and more resilient.
OBOZ.UA has compiled a list of such plants. The main condition is a sufficient amount of snow.
Cornflowers
Annual cornflowers are planted from seeds every year, while perennials are planted only once and then cared for. If you decide to plant the crop in December, the snow layer should be 20-30 centimeters thick.
Dig a bed and sow the seeds, cover it with soil mixed with manure or peat. Then be sure to cover everything with snow. Avoid places with standing water as waterlogging can harm the flowers. In spring, you will already see the first sprouts of cornflowers.
Marigold
For marigolds, you need to prepare the beds before the onset of stable frost and snow. Due to its large seeds, the plant requires deep planting: the holes should be 3-5 centimeters deep. After the frost, sow the seeds and cover everything with soil with compost or sand.
You can also sow the seeds directly in the snow. Then mulch the area with a mixture of soil and humus and cover everything with snow.
Chinese carnation
This is a perennial frost-resistant plant that can withstand temperatures down to -5 degrees Celsius. When there are stable frost days, then you can plant the crop. Dig the beds and sow the seeds into the loosened soil.
Snapdragon
For this annual plant, you also need to prepare the beds in advance. Dig the holes before the frost is stable, so it will be easier for the seeds to germinate. After planting, first cover with dry soil and then cover everything with snow.
Cosmea
This is one of the most unpretentious flowers that is not afraid of temperature fluctuations and cold weather. Choose places where there will be no meltwater in the spring because the flower will not survive. Sow the seeds and cover everything with soil first, and then snow.
