According to the most common version, the threshold in pagan times was considered a portal between two worlds. The explanation is very simple: many centuries ago, it was customary to keep the ashes of the dead on the threshold. That is why this place was considered mysterious and mystical, and by doing something on the threshold, people were believed to disturb the peace of the dead and look into the afterlife.

According to the superstition, lovers should not kiss on the doorstep. This can bring discord and quarrels to the relationship. According to another interpretation, kissing on the doorstep brings negativity to the relationship and can even lead to a breakup.

It was also forbidden for lovers to sit on the doorstep - people said it led to separation.

Superstitious people believe that you can't pass things over the threshold; otherwise, you may face poverty and material difficulties. Therefore, before handing over money or an item, it was advised to let the person into the house or take a few steps toward them. According to the belief, handing a thing to someone from the doorstep can lead to a permanent quarrel with that person.

In addition, our great-grandmothers did not allow us to stand on the threshold with the door open, as this could cause happiness and prosperity to leave the family.

When embarking on a long journey, cross the threshold with your right foot - this way the journey will be easy and successful.

Talking to someone on the threshold was also not advised, as it usually leads to conflicts.

According to a superstition, if you stumble on the threshold in the morning, the day may go badly. And stumbling on the threshold in the evening may lead to quarrels in the family.
