Salt on the windowsill

Salt is useful not only in cooking but can also be utilized for cleaning, washing dishes, and removing stains - the list of life hacks is inexhaustible.

Housewives often place a container of salt on the windowsill. OBOZREVATEL figured out why and why not.

With the onset of cold weather, it has long been customary to put salt on the windowsill. This life hack became indispensable with the beginning of the heating season in the fight against excess moisture.

And everything is explained very simply. Salt helps eliminate condensation when water starts to drip off the glass during the day. High humidity is one of the main causes of mold in homes during the fall and winter.

Why do housewives put salt on windowsills: superstitions are baseless

This year, Russian shelling of critical infrastructure has resulted in not only power outages but also heat and water outages. More and more Ukrainians have started complaining about mold in their apartments and houses.

Therefore, it is worth trying to pour salt into a small container and place it on the windowsills. It will absorb excess moisture, and condensation will not settle on the glass.

However, it is worth remembering that the filler should be changed regularly. Once every 2-3 days will be enough.

If you're used to saving money, you don't have to throw away the salt; just dry it in a pan or in the oven and then use it again for its intended purpose.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL told you how much salt you can eat a day so as not to harm your body.
