Pruning is one of the basic plant care procedures that should not be skipped. It is what helps to keep the garden well-maintained and rejuvenate the plants.

Many garden shrubs need to be pruned in the summer. But there are a few exceptions to this rule. OBOZREVATEL tells you which bushes should not be cared for in this way in the summer season.

Hydrangea

The bouquet and tree hydrangeas decorate gardens and flowerbeds with lush and long-lasting blooms. They bloom in the second half of summer, which is why they should not be cut back at this time. It will be appropriate to do so at the very beginning of spring, before the hydrangea wakes up.

Potentilla fruticosa

This bush is appreciated for its unpretentiousness in care and high aesthetics. But it grows quickly and in a short time can reach a height of one and a half meters, which causes the gardener's desire to take up the pruning shears and put the plant in order. But you should not do this in summer, because the lupus blooms throughout the warm season. The ideal time for its pruning is from mid-March to the end of April. In summer, you can carefully remove dry inflorescences.

Scumpia

The fluffy blooms of this shrub are very decorative in the garden - the plant looks quite unique and exotic. But the scampi has a tendency to develop too long branches and can thus take up a lot of space. You will have to wait until spring to cut it back. In order for the bush to bloom well, the procedure should be carried out song the end of winter colds, but no later than April.

Common oleander

It is one of the most beautiful garden shrubs, blooming almost all summer long. This is why it should not be pruned during this season. It is best to rejuvenate the oleander by shortening the branches after it has flowered - in September or early October. The older the plant, the more it needs this care, otherwise the blooms will be quite modest. An important caveat is that oleander should only be cared for with gloves, as it is poisonous.

Buddleia davida

The brightly colored inflorescences of the plant attract many butterflies, so buddleia is an excellent choice for the garden. However, this plant is rather capricious in care, in particular it requires proper pruning. The procedure should never be carried out in summer. The best season for this is spring. But not too early, because buddleia is quite sensitive to low temperatures. For the same reason, it is better not to cut it in the fall, when frosts begin at night.
