Marigolds

Marigolds are unpretentious and beautiful flowers that will make a great decoration for any garden or balcony. Their bright inflorescences are pleasing to the eye throughout the summer and sometimes right up to frost.

OBOZ.UA told you when and how to sow one of the most popular flowers in Ukraine to get abundant flowering.

Marigolds can be grown both by seedlings indoors and seeds in open ground.

If you choose the first option, you usually start sowing seeds in early April. First, you should make a soil mixture consisting of peat, soil, compost, and a small amount of sand.

Add some drainage to the container, soil and a little water. After three days, you can plant the marigold seeds, cover the pot with foil and put it in a warm place.

After the first sprouts appear, remove the film and place the plant in the sun.

When to sow marigolds and how to do it properly

If you live in a fairly warm region, you can sow the marigolds directly outdoors. This is usually done in late March or early or late April, depending on the weather conditions.

To ensure a healthy flower and abundant bloom, sow marigolds outdoors as follows:

  • Make holes up to 5 centimeters deep and about 30-40 cm apart;
  • Spread the seeds in the grooves and cover them with 1 cm of soil;
  • Pour over with water.

After that, sprouts that are too dense should be thinned out, leaving 10 cm between plants. In addition, do not forget to water in time because marigolds do not take well to dry soil.

If done correctly, the first small buds will bloom within a few months after sowing.
