What you need to do in the garden in November: four urgent tasks

The summer cottage season comes to a full stop in November. Yes, there is very little work in the garden, but there are still a few tasks that need to be completed in order to go on a winter break.

Prepare the soil for seedlings

From this perspective, the winter that awaits us ahead seems infinitely long. In fact, before you know it, it's time to start growing seedlings. That's why you need to start preparing the ground for them in November. You need to collect enough soil from the site and, if necessary, mix it with drainage agents or certain fertilizers to get a high-quality seedbed in late winter and early spring.

Take care of the greenhouse

Inside the greenhouse, the microclimate is still at an optimal level for pests and infections to breed. But the harvest has already been harvested. So it's a good time to get rid of unwanted organisms. You can treat the greenhouse with insecticides and other products, and it will be completely clean by spring.

Make winter crops

Some crops, such as garlic, onions, beets, some types of greens, cabbage, carrots, radishes, and parsnips, can be sown in the fall. Then in the spring, they will germinate without your participation. But you need to do it before the first frost. November is the last chance.

Prepare compost

In the fall, there is a lot of material for making compost, including fallen leaves. Do not rush to dump them into the pit. Wait until it turns brown and then add it to the total mass. Freshly cut grass should be placed in thin layers so that it does not form clumps and does not disturb the balance of matter in favor of nitrogen. Excessive moisture in the pit can be regulated by adding straw, wood waste, paper, and cardboard. Finally, you can cover the compost with plant material, such as branches cut from the garden, for the winter.
