What not to do after washing: you will spoil both clothes and the machine
The invention of washing machines made the laundry process much easier. It seems simple: sort your clothes by color, throw them in, add detergent and conditioner, and wait for the machine to do its job.
But we often make common mistakes that ruin both our clothes and the machine. The Sante Plus publication told us what not to do after washing.
Why you shouldn't leave laundry in the washing machine for a long time
The first and most obvious reason why you shouldn't leave things in the drum for a long time is the unpleasant odor that will appear on your clothes.
Experts emphasize that this habit will have a very negative impact on the appliance itself. Regardless of the model (from the oldest to the most modern), washing machines wear out very quickly, especially if they are not properly maintained. Manufacturers always warn about the danger of storing wet clothes in the drum for a long time. This will not only reduce the efficiency of the machine but also limit its service life.
In addition, humidity leads to the formation of mold on the fibers of fabrics.
The way you should load the laundry
The way you load the machine plays a big role in the washing process.
The classic loading procedure is as follows:
- Pour detergent into the container.
- Fill the drum with dirty clothes.
- Turn on the machine and start the washing process.
By choosing the correct loading order, you can avoid excessive foaming and significantly minimize the risk of damage to fabrics. Too much detergent is never good for cleaning clothes. If you have a detergent dispenser (as most front-loaders do), use it. It has been specially designed to release powder or liquid at the most appropriate point in the cycle.
Danger of overloading
To avoid having to run the machine several times and to save on water and energy, the drum is often filled to the brim. Experts warn that this is a very bad idea. The more the clothes are "intertwined" with each other, the more they wrinkle and the worse they are cleaned. Overloading leaves less space for water, so its circulation is reduced, which necessarily limits the efficiency of washing.
The amount of detergent
Too much detergent or liquid causes a lot of foam to form. The foam residue can cause a lot of damage, including discoloration, dullness, and further staining of the laundry. Not to mention that these residues can lead to the growth of bacteria.
Spin the laundry properly
This process spins wet clothes at high speed to remove excess water and help them dry faster. But be careful as spinning can damage your clothes if not used properly. Spinning at high speed can stretch the fabric. And if the clothes are also unevenly distributed, constant contact can damage the fibers.
