Russia excluded from UEFA tournaments

The European Football Union (UEFA) will not object to the Russian national team playing in the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) championship, despite the suspension of teams from the aggressor country from international competitions. UEFA noted that the tournament does not have official status and no sanctions are in place.

UEFA made this statement in response to a request from the propaganda news agency TASS. They noted that the participation of Russians in friendly matches does not contradict the organisation's decision regarding teams from Russia.

"Friendly matches are not part of UEFA competitions and as such fall outside the scope of UEFA's competence and responsibility. For this reason, the participation of Russian teams in friendly tournaments does not contradict the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee to suspend Russian teams from participating in competitions under the auspices of the organisation," UEFA stressed.

It should be noted that the first CAFA Championship will be held in June this year in Bishkek and Tashkent. In addition to Russia, it will be attended by Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and an unnamed Asian team. The results of the games will go into the world rankings.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the day before it became known that the International Football Federation (FIFA) had changed the rules for the World Cup.
