"This winter will not be easier": power engineers told about the future situation with blackouts in Ukraine

Next winter the situation with blackouts in Ukraine may be more difficult than last winter. The fact is that last year was saved by the availability of its own stock of equipment.
This was told in an interview with Forbes by DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko. "This winter will not be easier. Last winter we were saved by having our own stock of equipment. If we broke a transformer at one thermal power plant, we quickly removed the transformer from the mothballed unit of another power plant and transported it to the operating unit," he said.
At the same time, there are no such reserves now, Timchenko explained. They are trying to form them.
"We order transformers from manufacturers and, if possible, produce our own equipment. We are also taking power units out of conservation and repairing what can be repaired. Last year we entered the winter with a capacity of 6,000 MW. We came out of winter with a capacity of 3,700 MW. There is a detailed plan of what we need to do to enter the next winter with a capacity of 4800 MW," the Director General of DTEC added.
According to him, for this year Ukraine needs UAH 3.5 billion for planned repairs and about UAH 5 billion for restoration after massive shelling by the terrorist country Russia.
As previously reported OBOZREVATEL, last winter most Ukrainians paid "twice" for electricity from generator operation. Most of the apartment buildings that connected the generator had individual contracts with the electricity supplier company. According to the individual contracts, residents pay according to meter readings.
