Four green manures that can restore soil

Green manure plants are grown on plots to increase soil fertility and fill it with nutrients. After harvesting, you need to prepare the land for the next season, and this can be done without using fertilizers.

OBOZ.UA has found green manures that will improve soil quality. There are different types of such plants: legumes, cereals, buckwheat, amaranth, hydrophilic, and others, but the most useful are listed below.

Alfalfa

If the soil has high acidity, alfalfa will reduce it and fill the soil with nitrogen. Thanks to its developed root system, alfalfa can improve the airiness of the soil and inhibit weed growth.

Peas

This green manure will fill the soil with oxygen and make it loose. Peas should be planted in early September. They should be dug up together with the ground in late fall, without leaving the crop for the winter.

Mustard

Mustard effectively fights pests, so don't worry that annoying insects will spend the winter on your site. For the crop to fulfill its functions, it must be mowed when the plant has tops. It can be left on the ground, dug up, or composted.

Phacelia

This green manure grows quickly and forms a mat of thick-branched leaves. This helps to stop the growth of weeds. Due to the dense layer covering the entire surface, the plant protects the upper fertile layer of the earth from blowing and washing away. Phacelia heals the soil, making it looser and airy.
