Pavel Durov, one of the creators of Telegram, said that the messenger would soon feature Stories - the ability to post photos and short videos that are deleted after a certain period of time. The introduction of such a feature has long been requested by users.

Durov wrote about it in his Telegram channel. He also showed how Stories would look in the app (to see the video, scroll to the end of the page).

"For years, our users have been asking us to implement Stories in Telegram. More than half of all feature requests we receive are Stories-related. Initially, we were against it as Stories are already everywhere. However, Telegram wouldn't be Telegram if we didn't listen to our users and innovate on existing formats," said Durov.

Stories are now in the final stages of testing and will be available as early as the beginning of July.

Durov explained how Stories in Telegram would differ from its competitors.

First of all, users will be able to choose how long a story is valid - 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours. It will also be possible to permanently display stories on the profile page with individual privacy settings for each of them.

"The ability to save your stories on the profile page will make Telegram's profiles more informative and colourful. Not only will you be able to view more content from your closest contacts, but you'll finally learn more about the users you interact with in groups or channel comments," the programmer writes.

Privacy. Users will be able to define who can see each of the Stories with pinpoint accuracy: all, just your contacts (with exceptions), a few selected contacts, or a list of close friends.

Compact interface. The Stories bar will be in an expandable section at the top of the chat list, making them easily accessible without taking up precious space.

Flexibility. Stories posted by any contact will be easily hidden by moving them to the Hidden list in Contacts instead of the home screen.

Design. In addition to using dozens of photo and video editing tools, Stories on Telegram will allow you to add captions, links and tag other people.

Dual camera support. Building on the success of video messaging, Telegram developers decided to add the ability to post photos and videos shot simultaneously with the front and back cameras of your phone.
