A proxy centre that could have been used by Russian special services for cyberattacks and spreading Russian propaganda was exposed in Ukraine. Its work was blocked by detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security and employees of the Cyber Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.

This was reported on the BES website. The centre was organised by two Ukrainians, residents of the Poltava and Kharkiv regions. They created the appropriate software and hardware complex.

The service, using VPN and PROXY servers, allowed people from any country to impersonate Ukrainian mobile Internet users. In particular, the centre's clients included Russian citizens who remotely received IP addresses of Ukrainian telecommunications operators.

The organisers of the proxy centre used servers located in Russia and accessed by the aggressor country's special services. This gave the enemy the opportunity to spread Kremlin narratives and fakes allegedly on behalf of Ukrainian citizens.

"The subscription fee for the services was almost UAH 2.5 thousand per month. The defendants in the proceedings used Russian electronic payment systems banned in Ukraine as payment, maintained legal, financial and technical contacts with business entities in the Russian Federation," the statement said.

The BES and the SBU conducted searches and found a special equipment control server, mobile phones, access to VPN administrative panels, PROXY servers, Russian banned payment systems, transactions to other crypto wallets and electronic money. They also found USD 120,000 in earnings and half a kilogram of gold.

The organisers of the illegal activity were detained and served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal actions with transfer documents, payment cards and other means of access to bank accounts, electronic money, equipment for their production). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the SBU detained an employee of a large chemical production facility in the Odesa region who voluntarily cooperated with the Russian occupiers. He passed on to Russia the locations of the Defence Forces and industrial facilities in the region.
