Russia's basketball team suspended from qualifying for the 2024 Olympics
The Russian men's basketball team will not take part in the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Representatives of the aggressor country were not registered for pre-qualification for the main sporting event of the quadrennial.
The relevant decision was made by the Executive Committee of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), according to the organisation's website. The FIBA recalled the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing in team sports.
The Russian national team will not play in the qualifiers for the Olympics.

Instead of the Russian national team, Bulgaria will play in the European qualification for the Olympics. The other 15 participants include Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine.
The teams will be divided into two groups, which will determine one team each that will qualify for the FIBA Olympic qualifying tournaments to be held in 2024.
The Ukrainian national basketball team will play in the qualifiers for the Olympic Games.

The pre-qualification tournament will take place from 12 to 20 August 2023. The hosts of the tournaments will be selected at the next meeting of the FIBA Central Council on 28-29 April, and the draw for the groups is scheduled for May 1, 2023.
