Russia may start massive shelling of Ukraine again: the FT named the key issue of the next "Ramstein"
At a meeting of defense ministers of partner countries regarding military assistance in the "Ramstein" format, Ukraine will ask to strengthen the Ukrainian army with air defense equipment. A shortage of air defense systems could allow the aggressor country Russia to conduct massive strikes from the sky.
The Financial Times reported this on Wednesday, April 19, citing sources with knowledge of Ramstein's preparations. The meeting is to be held next week.
According to journalists, Ukrainian soldiers need more missiles to replenish their supplies, which are constantly dwindling. Therefore, Kyiv will ask its partners for just this assistance. At the same time, Western allies fear that without sufficient anti-aircraft defense, a planned counteroffensive by the AFU "could be derailed."
"Short-range air defense is a topic that the Ukrainians are bringing up more and more. If they use all these means, it will open up space for the Russian air force," one European official told the publication.
According to the journalists' interlocutors, if Russian troops can reach deep into Ukraine with unguided air bombs, dropping them from airplanes, "there will be trouble."
It is also noted that recent deliveries of MiG fighters to Ukraine "are partly intended to mitigate the threat from Russia's still underutilized large air power."
However, another source said, "Kyiv desperately needs more missiles" capable of shooting down the fighters.
"The supply of air defenses is a problem that Ukraine constantly raises. The supply of (MiG. - Ed.) fighters is aimed at preparing for air battles against Russian aircraft," he noted.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, earlier Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is preparing as much as possible for the 11th meeting in the Ramstein format, aimed at providing the AFU soldiers with advanced and necessary weapons in preparation for a counterattack.
