Reuters: Putin has brought the Wagner soldiers and other mercenaries under tighter state control after Prigozhin's death

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin decided to "tame" the mercenaries of the Wagner private military company after they lost their leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. Now they have been obliged to swear allegiance to the Russian Federation.

The decree of August 25, 2023, the text of which is posted on the Kremlin website, states that all persons contributing to the fulfillment of the tasks of the Russian Armed Forces shall be sworn in before the flag of the Russian Federation. First of all, these are "volunteers" participating in Russia's war against Ukraine.

In addition, participants of the so-called territorial defense and employees of enterprises in the sphere of arms circulation must swear allegiance to Russia.
