Poland bans Ukraine from exporting Ukrainian grain, but allows Russia: how the situation is explained
Poland has banned Ukraine from exporting grain to their country (only transit is allowed). However, it continues to buy grain from Russia.
As the President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Leonid Kozachenko told UNN , this is explained by insignificant volumes of purchases from Russia. At the same time Ukraine supplied such volumes that created competition for Polish agrarians.
"Many questions arise - why, when Ukraine is banned, they continue to work with Russian food. And honey is supplied by Russia, and other products. Why is Russia not treated so harshly? When we ask these questions, we are told about insignificant volumes, while Ukraine carries significant volumes of products across the border," he emphasized.
According to the expert, there is one right question in this situation: if the Polish side fears that the products of the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex will settle in its domestic market, it should carefully control the movement of cargoes. "At first they agreed, and then they said: aha, you sell to Italy and Spain, and we want to sell there. And we cannot compete with you there," Leonid Kozachenko explained the behavior of Polish partners.
According to the head of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, Poland is thinking about protecting its farmers, who cannot compete with Ukrainian ones "even in the conditions of war, when everything is not good in Ukraine". "But still Ukrainian agriculture is more powerful, it develops on a completely different principle than European agriculture. And this is indeed the reason," the expert commented on the Polish side's statements regarding the blocking of Ukrainian agro-exports.
As reported OBOZREVATEL, on July 17, Russia announced the withdrawal from the grain deal. As a result, the Russian Federation restored the regime of "temporarily dangerous area in the north-western waters of the Black Sea". The aggressor also launched massive attacks on Ukrainian ports.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine and Russia had not signed any bilateral agreements. Therefore, the Russian Federation is only disrupting its agreements with the UN and Turkey, while Ukraine's agreements with them remain in force. Thus, Ukraine will push its partners to continue grain exports in the Black Sea.
