The future lush flowering of the garden should be laid in the winter

The month of February is the perfect time to prepare your garden for the coming spring. In particular, it's time to prune flowering plants if you want to get them to bloom lushly during the warm season and improve their health.

In particular, three popular ornamental crops should be pruned in February. They are still sleeping, so they will tolerate the procedure quite easily. At the same time, they will recover quite quickly after pruning when they start waking up from the heat in a few weeks. OBOZ.UA tells you about these plants and the nuances of caring for them in February.

Hydrangea

Most deciduous shrubs the flowering season of which is in summer should be pruned in February-March. In particular, garden hydrangeas need such care. The most important task is to remove dead branches from it. Take a closer look at the stems that developed inflorescences last year and cut them back to a pair of healthy buds. This way you will preserve the structure of the bush and all its vitality. If you want to get more abundant flowering, prune hydrangeas to the lower pair of healthy buds, creating a low branch frame.

Buddleja davidii

This large and fast-growing shrub is famous for its fragrant flowers of delightful purple hues that can decorate any garden. In winter, you should not prune this plant because it is quite sensitive to frost and branches with cuts can be damaged. However, when the frost stops, it's time to take care of the buddleja. You need to remove the stems that faded last season so that their length does not exceed one or two buds from the older wood base. You should also remove any thin, weak, or dead shoots.

Rose

Pruning roses ensures that the plants will bloom well into the new season. Climbing roses can be pruned throughout the winter. However, pruning in February will allow them to recover at their best. Start by removing dead, diseased, or damaged branches. Then tie up the shoots needed to fill the supports. It is worth removing all flowering side shoots for two-thirds of their length. If the plant is very overloaded, you can cut off all the old branches at the base. This will start the growth of new ones in the spring.
