On March 15, the Ukrainian defender and local footballer Roman Skrypnyuk was buried in Odesa Oblast. The 30-year-old athlete was killed in March in the fighting near Bakhmut.

Roman Skrypnyuk was born on October 8, 1992, in the village of Molodizhne, located 5 km from Chornomorsk. Since childhood, he has been involved in sports and was a member of the local football club Bastion, which competed in the Second League of the Ukrainian Championship.

In his youth, Skrypnyuk took part in both the Odesa region and national tournaments. After that, he served in the army. After returning home from service, Roman continued to defend the colours of local football clubs. He took part in the championships of Chornomorsk and Odesa, the Odesa Oblast Championship and district competitions.

Over the years, Skrypnyuk has played for a number of teams from the south of Ukraine. These are FC Chornomorsk, Zatoka (Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi), Trofimovets (Molodizhne), Inter (Mala Dolyna), Luxor (Baraboy), and Efes (Chornomorsk).

Roman's last club was FC TBT (TransBalkTerminal), the leader of the Chornomorsk Open Futsal Championship in the 2022/23 season.

Roman could not stay at home when Russia's full-scale invasion began, as he had experience in the army. From the first day of the war, the footballer volunteered for the front. Over the past year, he performed the most difficult tasks. But in March 2023, Skrypnyuk fought his last battle in the Donetsk region. The athlete died "in hell on earth", as the city of Bakhmut is now called.

Skrypnyuk's funeral took place on March 15 at St Nicholas Church in Chornomorsk. The fallen hero was buried in his native Molodizhne.

Roman is survived by his wife Olga and two children.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that a track and field athlete from Kyiv and his only son was killed in a battle with the occupiers near Bakhmut.
