Macron has found a new way to "save Putin's face"
French President Emmanuel Macron believes that representatives of Russia should be allowed to attend the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Macron's words were quoted by Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), at a press conference following a meeting of the Executive Board.
"Macron said that sport should not be politicised and stressed that representatives of all countries, including those at war, should take part in the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics," Bach said.
The IOC chief also mentioned the G20 summit in Indonesia, where he explained his position on neutrality.
"The head of the G20, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, supported the idea of political neutrality of sport and emphasised the unifying power of the Olympics and Paralympics," Bach said.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine said that some European leaders who are trying to mediate in negotiations with Russia offered our country to make concessions on sovereignty issues.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that they were acting incorrectly and that Ukrainians would not give up their territories to "save face" to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
On June 16, during a visit to Ukraine, the French president responded to criticism of his words about "saving Putin's face". According to the French leader, Ukraine must win the war unleashed by Russia.
