A carpet is a warm and comfortable piece of furniture that adds a special coziness to your home. The only downside is that it gets dirty too quickly, especially if it's on the kitchen floor or in a child's room.

You can use both improvised and professional products for cleaning. OBOZREVATEL figured out how to clean a dirty carpet quickly and efficiently.

First, experts advise paying attention to the composition of the carpet. If it's wool, baking soda, salt, or vinegar will do. Synthetics will be well-cleaned with soap solutions, salt, and vinegar. However, if your carpet contains wool, viscose, or silk, do not attempt to use improvised means; such carpets should be dry-cleaned.

For long piles, it is better to use a microfiber cloth. A short pile is cleaned with a brush or damp sponge.

Life hack with baking soda and vinegar

This method was used by our grandmothers. To prepare the mixture, take half a cup of boiling water, add 70 ml of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent. Mix everything thoroughly. Then pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray it over the carpet surface.

After allowing the mixture to work, wipe the carpet with a damp sponge.

Life hack with citric acid and glycerin

Citric acid will tackle old stains. The recipe is simple: dilute citric acid in water in a 1:1 ratio and pour the mixture on the stain. The acid needs to work, so leave it on for at least 2 hours.

Glycerin is also suitable for cleaning light carpets. Just dab it on the stain and wait 1-2 hours. The dirt will come off, then wipe off the glycerin with a damp cloth.

Life hack with store-bought products

If you don't want to mess with vinegar or acid, use professional products. We're talking about Vanish, dishwashing liquid, liquid soap, or shampoo. Dissolve them to a thick foam and lubricate the carpet with the foam. After that, wash and be sure to dry the carpet (for example, with a hairdryer). Excess moisture will cause mold and an unpleasant odor.
