How to freshen up kitchen towels

Kitchen towels can become real breeding grounds for bacteria if they are not washed on time. The fibers of the fabric are deeply saturated with grease, food debris, and moisture, so conventional laundry detergents may not be effective.

Moreover, an unpleasant odor sometimes lingers even after washing. OBOZREVATEL has figured out how to wash kitchen towels that smell bad.

There is one very simple but, as cleaning experts say, effective way. Ordinary mustard powder can restore freshness to kitchen towels. It will not only remove old greasy stains but also eliminate the unpleasant odor.

For your convenience, we are publishing step-by-step instructions.

Step 1: Pour 500 ml of hot water (but not boiling water) into a container.

Step 2: Add 4 tablespoons of mustard powder. Stir thoroughly to dissolve the mixture.

Step 3: Strain the mixture through cheesecloth. Now you can soak the towels. Leave them in for at least 30 minutes to soak sufficiently.

Experts advise using "mustard gruel" for heavy soiling. Dissolve the powder in water to obtain a paste-like mixture and apply it directly to the stains. After 30 minutes, rinse the towels in warm water and machine wash them.

By the way, light towels made of natural fabrics can be boiled with auxiliary substances such as table salt or baking soda. They will help not only to restore the textile to cleanliness but also to disinfect it. Read more about the life hack in the article.
