How to wash second-hand clothes

Second-hand clothes are no longer considered something shameful or secondary. On the contrary, more and more fashion experts prefer second-hand items because you can find high-quality branded models for a fraction of the price at thrift stores.

However, there is a significant drawback - the smell. OBOZREVATEL has explored a cheap and highly effective life hack to get rid of the specific odor of second-hand clothes.

It is crucial to always wash second-hand clothes. This should be done at the maximum permissible temperature indicated on the label. Use twice as much detergent in the washing machine as usual and run an additional rinse cycle.

It is recommended to exclusively dry second-hand clothes outdoors, allowing the specific odor to naturally dissipate. After washing, iron the second-hand clothes.

Unfortunately, regular washing doesn't always eliminate odors. Therefore, experts suggest a more 'radical' option. Pour 1 liter of cold water into a container and add 10 ml of ammonia. The soaking process should be extensive—keep cotton clothes in the solution for at least an hour, and other fabrics, including synthetics, for 6 hours.

Afterward, dry the clothes in the fresh air. This life hack is suitable for all items, whether white, black, or colored.

If ammonia doesn't prove effective, try running another washing cycle and adding a few drops of essential oil to the detergent.
