Shower curtains protect the walls and floor, as limescale is usually caused by hard tap water. If not washed regularly, the curtains can become a real breeding ground for bacteria and pathogenic fungi, leading to mould.

A study by Safe Home found that shower curtains contain 60 times more germs than toilet seats.

The best way to clean curtains is by hand. One available ingredient will help you quickly clean and disinfect the surface.

Step 1. Remove the curtain from the rod and fill the bathtub with warm water. Add ¼ cup of baking soda and a little washing powder to the water

Step 2. Mix the ingredients until foamy and soak the curtain in the bathroom. Then rinse it under running water. It is better to dry the curtain in the open air.

You can also use a homemade spray. Fill a spray bottle with warm water and liquid soap, then squeeze half a lemon into the mixture. Spray the solution directly onto a damp or dry shower curtain and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Wipe the surface with a damp sponge.

Periodically wash the entire curtain with hot water using the shower head. Bathrooms should be well ventilated to allow all surfaces to dry. Excessive humidity is the main cause of bacterial growth.

Experts do not advise using chlorinated bleach - it can lead to yellowing of the curtain and even damage the outer layer of the material. When washing, add white vinegar along with a small amount of detergent. This is a natural and environmentally friendly alternative to bleach.
