How to dry an umbrella correctly: etiquette rules
There are rules in etiquette that many people don't even know about—such as how to properly dry an umbrella. It would seem that the algorithm is simple: open a wet umbrella on the floor and wait for it to dry. However, there are many nuances.

How not to dry an umbrella
Improper drying will damage the fabric and the canopy. The material will start to sag and lose its properties.
Impregnate the umbrella with special hydrophobic agents that repel moisture. When dried in the open, the fabric will sag under its weight and stretch, reducing its protective properties.
Experts advise drying the umbrella in a partially open position—this way, the material will retain its strength and hydrophobic properties.
There are three basic rules for drying an umbrella:
- Do not dry the umbrella in the sun—the sun's rays can cause fading and discoloration.
- Do not place a wet umbrella on a shelf or in a case when it is folded—mold may appear on the material.
- Do not keep the umbrella near heating appliances and batteries.
How to dry the umbrella
You can hang the umbrella on a hook, door handle, or coat rack. The material should be ventilated from all sides.
The only exception is products with metal spokes. They should be fully opened and left in this form for 20-30 minutes.
Dry the umbrella to the end to prevent mold, musty odors, and stains.
Rules for official events
According to the rules of etiquette, when you come to visit, you need to ask the hosts where to put a wet umbrella.
In the office, you should ask your interlocutor or the receptionist; in a restaurant, the waiter or manager; and in the theater, the administrator or staff.
Usually, offices have a special rack where you can put umbrellas.
