How to care for jewelry

Wedding rings that are worn on the ring finger all the time are best given for professional cleaning. But you can do it at home - all you need is soapy water and a soft brush.

The Express told us how to remove dirt from jewelry at home, citing the advice of Hatton Jewelers experts. Regardless of whether your ring is made of gold or silver, with or without diamonds, it needs to be cleaned periodically to restore its original beauty.

"We recommend that you have your jewelry professionally or at home cleaned at least once every six months to keep it looking like new," advises Robert Cuomo, managing director of Hatton.

The main caveat is that abrasive materials should not be used when cleaning an engagement ring, as well as other jewelry. They can leave scratches on the metal or damage the product.

How to clean an engagement ring at home

Pour warm water into a small bowl, and add a mild liquid detergent to it. For a better effect, you can add a few drops of ammonia to the soap solution.

Gently brush the wedding ring with a small soft brush. This should be done carefully so as not to scratch the metal and diamonds.

After that, rinse the ring thoroughly under water and pat it dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Experts also point out that the ring should be protected from damage, so it should be removed in some cases.

For example, it is better to remove the ring when you wash your face, swim, work out in the gym, work in the garden, engage in outdoor activities, or do something energetic that involves your hands.
