Vinegar is widely used as a universal cleaning agent at home. It is environmentally friendly, inexpensive, and effective against many types of dirt.
However, it is important to remember that vinegar is an acid, so it cannot be used to clean some things and surfaces. This was described in more detail in the Express publication.
Washing machine
It is believed that vinegar can be used to clean a washing machine from the inside. However, in fact, this method can damage it.
A washing machine contains rubber seals, hoses, and other rubber elements that can be damaged by acid. Using vinegar is very likely to cause the appliance to leak, so it is better to clean it with another method.
Stone surfaces
Natural stones, such as marble, granite, and travertine, should not be cleaned with vinegar. The acid can react with trace elements contained in the stone. This will damage the surface, cause it to tarnish and leave stains.
Vinegar can also destroy the sealant, so you should clean stone countertops with a mild detergent.
Mirrors
Cleaning mirrors with white vinegar may seem like a good idea because it's great for cleaning windows or other glass items. However, the acid can penetrate the back of the mirror and ruin it.
Instead, use a special cleaner and microfiber cloth.
Dishwasher
Some people believe that using white vinegar in the dishwasher can help get rid of stubborn odors and stains.
However, not only can the acid damage your dishwasher, just like a washing machine, but it also won't give you the desired result.
Instead of vinegar, it is better to use special dishwasher cleaners.
