Dmytro Kuleba on security guarantees for Ukraine: F-16 is the best for now

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that the best guarantee of security for our country is to accelerate the supply of weapons. In particular, he said, the Ukrainian army needs modern F-16 fighter jets.

The Foreign Minister said this in an interview with journalist Vadym Karpiak, which was published on his official Instagram page on April 14. Kuleba noted that F-16s and other important military assistance could become a guarantee of security in the short term.

He stressed that Ukraine hopes for a positive decision on the transfer of the fighter jets and that it will be made in the near future. For our part, our government is working every day to get a positive response from our partners regarding the F-16.

"In the short term, of course, the best guarantee of our security is to accelerate the supply of weapons and ammunition, to accelerate it strongly and to make a positive decision on the provision of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine," Kuleba said.

The diplomat added that he hopes that the modern fighter jets will be delivered to the Ukrainian army before the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023.

At the same time, Ukraine believes that this meeting should make a step towards Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as resolve the issue of security guarantees before Ukraine becomes part of the bloc.

In this context, Kuleba added, there are developments in the form of the Kyiv Security Treaty, which should be followed.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the spokesman for the Armed Forces Command, Yuriy Ihnat, said that Ukrainian pilots would need much less time to master F-16 fighters. Due to the extensive experience of our military, they will be able to learn to fly such modern multi-purpose aircraft even in less than the six months previously mentioned.
