Carpathian Mountains during the war turned into a place where soldiers visited their relatives: how the war changed the tastes of tourists

Ukrainian hoteliers told about the tastes of Ukrainian tourists this season

During the full-scale war, the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains became a place where Ukrainian servicemen are rehabilitated and meet their relatives. In view of this, the guest experience has changed dramatically, say the owners of recreation facilities in the town of Yaremche in the Pre-Carpathian region.

Whereas previously large companies used to go there in winter for loud celebrations, now families come to the Carpathian Mountains. Ukrainians rent cottages with a kitchen to be able to cook by themselves. This is described in a TSN story (to see the video, scroll to the end of the page).

In the first months of the full-scale Russian invasion, all the hotels, schools, and homesteads in Yaremche were filled with immigrants, but by now most of them have already left. Tourists have again streamed into the resort - some places are now full.

Particularly people who weren't previously interested in vacations in Ukraine but have discovered local resorts because of the war are now coming to the Carpathian Mountains. Especially many people go there on holidays - for example, one of the largest and most expensive hotels is fully booked from December 28 to January 8. And in the estates and mini-hotels the situation is sadder, the number of guests is much less.

Hoteliers told about another change in tourists' tastes: previously they used to book rooms for a few days, now - at least for a week. And this despite the fact that prices in Carpathians went up by a third.

Such an increase in price is explained by problems with electricity - all businesses have bought generators to provide comfort to holidaymakers, and it requires a huge expenditure on fuel.

"We are not talking about earnings, say domestic hoteliers. It's solely about survival and aid for the military. From here millions of hryvnias are transferred to the front, they buy equipment, medicines and cars. And those who criticize tourism during the war are reminded that it is not only a psychological component, but also part of the Ukrainian economy. And the hope for the future", - says the message.
