iPhone 15: what to expect
Apple will unveil the iPhone 15, and users are holding their breath ahead of the official announcement of a major update: the promise that the proprietary Lightning will be replaced by a universal USB-C port.
For the first time (and finally), the iPhone will have a USB-C port instead of Apple's proprietary Lightning connector. Back in 2022, Apple confirmed that it would switch to USB-C to meet European Union regulations.
And while most users are positive about the upgrade, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo emphasized that only the Pro and Pro Max will benefit from faster data speeds. The expert noted that both premium models will have "at least" USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, with the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus supporting USB 2.0.
In addition, Apple analyst Ross Young reported last year that all iPhone 15 models will come with Dynamic Island.
It is highly likely that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have a titanium frame and aluminum body. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will also get a faster A17 chip built on a 3nm process, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will likely feature the A16 chip included in the iPhone 14 Pro.
MacRumors and 9to5Mac are reporting that the premium models could have an action button similar to the one installed on the Apple Watch Ultra. The button is expected to replace the sound switch and allow you to assign shortcuts to various programs.
Rumors of a rebranding of the iPhone 15 Pro Max have been flying around the web, with Apple allegedly wanting to change the name to "Ultra". Chief Apple insider Mark Gurman did not confirm this prediction, saying that the company will keep the Pro Max name.
The exclusive iPhone 15 Max is predicted to have a periscopic lens with 6x optical zoom. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives predicts that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be priced at $1,099 and $1,199, respectively.
The color changes are also credible. According to 9to5Mac, Apple may replace its gold finish with "gray titanium." The company may also introduce a new dark blue variant. The iPhone 15 Pro will traditionally be available in black and white. The network speculates that the standard iPhone 15 will have black, blue, yellow, white and pink variants.
Apple Watch lineup update
About the premium Apple Watch Ultra update, it is known that it will retain its 49mm size and will have a darker titanium case. It is also said that the Watch Series 9 will come with an updated S9 processor.
According to Gurman, the S9 chip is based on the A15 processor that Apple introduced in the iPhone 13. This could offer greater efficiency and better battery life compared to its predecessor. In all likelihood, the Apple Watch will feature an ultra-wideband chip, "sensors and internal component upgrades."
Other smaller updates expected along with the Watch Series 9 include a pink color option and a magnetic buckle strap.
AirPods Pro with a USB-C charging case
It's not just the iPhone 15 that will get USB-C. According to Gurman, Apple plans to show off USB-C-enabled AirPods Pro during the presentation as well.
Earlier, analyst Kuo said that Apple could release fourth-generation AirPods in the second half of 2024 or the first half of 2025, along with the second-generation AirPods Max. There is also a version that Apple will also release a new pair of cheaper AirPods for $99.
More information about iOS 17, macOS Sonoma
Apple is expected to announce release dates for iOS 17 and watchOS 10, as well as iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, at the presentation.
But beta versions for each of these operating systems can already be tested: iOS 17 will have a number of small but significant updates, including standby mode, voicemail transcription and the Journal app, macOS Sonoma adds widgets, a game mode and profiles in Safari.
In iPadOS 17, Apple will add personalized lock screens, interactive widgets, a Health app, support for external webcams and USB cameras. Apple is also launching an update to Stage Manager that finally lets you customize the size and orientation of every window on your screen. And watchOS 10 will include widgets to provide quick access to various programs.
