Spanish runner Enrique Llopis was seriously injured during a race in the final of the European Athletics Championships in Istanbul. The incident occurred at a distance of 60 metres with hurdles.

The 22-year-oldLlopis had a good chance of medals, but the last hurdle became an insurmountable obstacle for him. Having stumbled, the Spaniard fell head first onto the track surface at full speed and remained motionless.

Enrique, who is a bronze medallist at the UEFA Youth Euro 2021, was brought to life for several minutes, after that he was urgently hospitalised.

The men's 60m hurdles was the last event on the Euro 2023 programme. The victory went to 24-year-old Jason Joseph from Switzerland. For Llopis, it was the first participation in the final in his career. In 2019 and 2021, he finished at the semi-final stage.
