On May 2, 2023, the British city of Liverpool, which will soon host the Eurovision Song Contest, officially unveiled a monument dedicated to hope for peace in Ukraine. The statue, which depicts a man holding a book, a dove and a Ukrainian flag, is five metres high. It is reported that it will be transported to our country after the war.
This was reported by The Salvation Army. The monument is located on the territory of the former Strawberry Field orphanage. The idea for the sculpture belongs to 16-year-old Mexican Osbelit Garcia-Morales. She received a commission from the California-based Global Peace Initiative 2022 artists' coalition (to see the photo, scroll to the bottom of the page).
"The Ukrainian Peace Monument invites our guests to stand up for peace, whoever they are, wherever they are. The monument is a beautiful new symbol of hope for Ukraine, and it will remind others of the path to peace: to serve, to share, to forgive, to dialogue," said Kathy Versfeld, Strawberry Field Mission Director.
The official opening ceremony was attended by guests from the UK and other countries. Among them were John Lennon's sister Julia Baird, the head of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain in Liverpool Petro Revko, singer Brooke Combe and others.
"As Liverpool brings the world together again through music and song, our new monument is a timely reminder that peace will come to Ukraine," concluded Kathy Versfeld.
Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place on Tuesday, May 9. Fifteen singers will compete for the final. The show starts at 22:00 Kyiv time. To find out where you can watch the show, follow the link .
