"When I am dead, bury me": netizens recall how Alain Delon recited Taras Shevchenko's "My Testament". Video

After the news of the death of the legendary actor of the films Le Cercle Rouge and Le Samouraï, Alain Delon, netizens recalled a video dated 2022, when he recited Taras Shevchenko's My Testament in French. It is known that the star has supported Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war with Russia, and this small action was one of these manifestations.

At the time, he was a participant in a project of solidarity with the Ukrainian people from the Cyril Viguier journalistic team and the Ukrainian Embassy in France. As part of the project, Delon recited Kobzar's poetry, and a video of the performance was posted on YouTube.

The first few lines of My Testament were heard from the star's lips:

When I am dead, bury me

In my beloved Ukraine,

My tomb upon a grave mound high

Amid the spreading plain,

So that the fields, the boundless steppes,

The Dnieper's plunging shore

My eyes could see, my ears could hear

The mighty river roar.

We thank Alain Delon for such a powerful gesture of solidarity with Ukraine," commented representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy in France.

In particular, in 2022, the film actor spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the French TV channel TV5 Monde. The two exchanged friendly compliments: the head of state, referring to his former acting career, replied that he had never been such a brilliant actor as his interlocutor, and the Frenchman noted that he would never be such a great president.

Back then, Alain Delon promised to come to Ukraine. Although this did not happen, the actor received the Order of Merit earlier this year in gratitude for his strong support of our country.
