What the passengers and crew members of the Titanic looked like in real life. Photos

Few people know the real faces of the Titanic's passengers and crew

Although the story of the Titanic sinking has been discussed for over a hundred years, and the movie about the disaster has become a cult favorite, few people know what the passengers and crew actually looked like. Over time, their images have become blurred, and people's imaginations became filled with the faces of the actors who played the roles of real witnesses to the ship's collision with the iceberg.

However, these people have gone down in history, and therefore their portraits have been preserved online. OBOZ.UA decided to tell you about the lucky ones who survived that fateful night from April 14 to 15, 1912, as well as those who died in the ocean.

Margaret Brown

The American socialite, nicknamed "unsinkable Molly" after the disaster, was an important character in the film. The real-life Margaret made it off the ship and died of a brain tumor on October 26, 1932, in New York City at the age of 65.

Captain Edward John Smith

English naval officer Edward John Smith, just like in the movies, went down with his ship, researchers believe, although his body was never found. Some witnesses said they saw the captain escape, but no one heard anything more about him.

Joseph Bruce Ismay

The businessman, the highest-ranking official of the White Star Line, which owned the Titanic, survived. However, he was blamed for the disaster and for escaping with the children and women to the end of his days.

Ida and Isidore Strauss

The couple dying in each other's arms in bed is a scene was partly based on real events. Ida and Isidor, like the main characters in the film, found themselves in a situation where a woman was about to be put on an evacuation boat, and her husband was not planning to take a seat from other women and children. In the end, Ida decided to return to the Titanic and perish with her beloved. They were last seen on deck.

Archibald Gracie IV

The American writer survived the disaster and wrote a book about it. Throughout the evacuation, he helped women and children escape and lowered boats, and when the water washed him into the open ocean, he climbed onto an overturned boat and sat there until rescuers picked up the survivors.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote about the tragic story of Princess Diana, the former wife of King Charles III of Great Britain, and the son of Egyptian billionaire Dodi Al-Fayed. Read more about the couple whose love was filmed here.
