American screenwriter and actor Liev Schreiber, who became a United24 ambassador, was given a quiz on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day. Boxer Oleksandr Usyk quizzed the Hollywood star on the meaning of several Ukrainian words, but as it turned out, Liev Schreiber can speak Ukrainian without any problems.

He proved it by recording a video greeting for Ukrainians on the national holiday, which was posted after the quiz on the United24 Telegram channel. The American actor was thanked for his steadfast support of Ukraine.

Oleksandr Usyk asked the screenwriter if he knew the meaning of the words "yednistʹ, rodyna, vidbiy ta spravzhniy druh" (unity, family, dismiss and true friend). The American correctly explained three of the four words, and made a mistake only on "vidbiy", explaining it as the end of the school year.

Liev Schreiber admitted that he had been preparing and learning the Ukrainian language, and promised to demonstrate it the next time he came to Ukraine.

However, he was already able to clearly articulate his Independence Day greetings to Ukrainians.

"To all my brothers and sisters in Ukraine. Your courage and resilience are an inspiration to the world. Thank you for defending democracy, because it is what defines us, it is our common dream, it is our freedom. It is Ukrainians who remind the world how important it is to cherish and fight for it. Happy Independence Day. Glory to Ukraine," the actor said.

This is not the first time the friend of Ukraine has impressed with his knowledge of the language. Earlier this year, the Scream star addressed the crew of the Noosphere icebreaker in Ukrainian and left them a poignant message for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Liev Schreiber is confident in Ukraine's victory over the Russian occupiers. However, in his opinion, the fighting may drag on.
