Oleksandr Mokrovolskyi died at the age of 77

The famous Ukrainian writer, translator, and journalist Oleksandr Mokrovolsky passed away at the age of 77. He presented Ukrainians with translations of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and other books, and also had original works.

A member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, he once received the Maksym Rylsky Literary Prize. His death was reported on Facebook by the National Union of Writers of Ukraine

"The famous Ukrainian translator, editor, journalist and writer Oleksandr Mokrovolskyi died at the age of 77. His creative work includes dozens of translations from different languages, but the most famous is The Hobbit by John Tolkien," the post says.

As of now, there is no information about the funeral and the cause of death of Oleksandr Mokrovolsky. His colleague Dmytro Chystiak wrote that the works of the talented Ukrainian will remain an important part of the national culture.

"Oleksandr Mokrovolskyi passed away on the Solstice to a better world... And the completion of the Ukrainian "Ulysses Joyce after Oleksandr Terekh, and selected Heaney and Yeats, and Tolkien, and exceptional textbook collections of foreign poetry for schoolchildren, and original author's poetry, and Truth and Method by Gadamer, and Homo Ludens. Heising, and more, and more - will remain in our culture ... But nothing can replace the warm communication that you have given to many," Chystiak wrote.

There is information in the public domain that Oleksandr Mokrovolskyi was a polyglot-he spoke English, Spanish, German, French, and Polish.

The writer was born on December 29, 1945, in the Cherkasy region, but his father recorded his date of birth as January 2, 1946, so that his son could later go to school and the army.

The author was burried by a daughter who, according to information on the Internet, left Ukraine. It is also known that Oleksandr Mokrovolskyi died in Irpin.
